Land Rover Discovery Leasing

Land Rover Discovery SW

Launched in 2017, the all-new Land Rover Discovery has taken a new angle in approaching all of those things that Discovery drivers love so much about their cars. At Vantage Leasing, we specialise particularly in Land Rover and Range Rover leasing deals, and can offer the new model Discovery at an affordable, individual monthly rate.

Many drivers can be tempted to purchase their new car outright, but alternatives such as a Discovery lease deal are growing in popularity. Our leasing option delivers benefits from further flexibility to greater affordability, and it can bring serious savings in terms of both capital and hassle.

Buying has traditionally been the way that most people have approached motoring, but leasing is increasingly popular for several reasons:

Land Rover Discovery review

The fifth-generation Land Rover Discovery is praised for its very spacious and practical interior, a comfortable and quiet ride, and some very clever tech options, and it makes one of the best all-round performers on the market.

The new Discovery takes the sturdiness and off-road prowess of previous models and combines it with a far-improved drive and better efficiency than the older 4x4s. The model has been further refined, and the lighter weight and a new option of a twin-turbo four-cylinder diesel engine has widened the car’s appeal to buyers in search of practicality and affordable running costs.

This is all blended with the kind of versatility that Land Rovers are known for, dealing as well with off-road adventure as it does a spin around the city. The car’s new look is striking, the interior is comfortable, and it comes with some impressive technology.

Interior

Thanks to a new aluminium monocoque chassis, the latest Discovery offers more space, added tech, excellent practical credentials, and levels of quality and refinement more in line with a Range Rover.

The car’s third row seats deliver more legroom than many of the car’s direct competitors, easily accommodating fully grown adults with the second row seats positioned slightly further forward, still leaving plenty of room for those in the middle. Alternatively, when travelling with only five occupants the second row seats can be slid back, with still more than enough storage space left over.

In other areas, the superb quality of the car continues with standards of materials and refinement equal to the Range Rover brand. The upfront technology including infotainment and climate control is all very familiar, whilst the panel fitted with the ventilation controls flips down to open a small storage compartment for mobile phones and sunglasses. Further storage compartments include a large space underneath the two cupholders, an optionally refrigerated space beneath the centre armrest, and sizeable door compartments in the front and rear. There is also a double glove box setup for added practicality, and even passengers in the third row are given space for smaller possessions.

Mirroring the exterior changes, the Discovery’s interior has developed to be far more upmarket and modern in its looks. The screen and infotainment kit including the optional entertainment system in the rear all gives the new model a distinctly luxurious feel. This new sheen is still combined, however, with the robustness that sets Land Rover apart.

Boot capacity

Space and practicality are what the Discovery is best known for, and the new model’s huge boot space comes with a dedicated storage area for the load cover when all seven seats are in use. Opening and closing the boot is made easy thanks to the power tailgate, with gesture control tech available on the top trim level and opening the boot with a wave of of your foot beneath the bumper when your arms are full.

A major change for the new model is the removal of the trademark split tailgate, but this is compensated for with an electrically operated flip-down bench capable of holding up to 300kg. This neat addition is a practical touch that means experienced Discovery drivers won’t have to forgo any practical benefits.

Engine

The Discovery’s engine has undergone some redesign work too, opening the car up to a wider market thanks to the added option of an Ingenium 2.0-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine. The twin turbos, boosting low-end response and high-end power, mean the car manages 237bhp and 500Nm torque and even the four-cylinder model delivers good performance.

The car will manage 0-60mph in 8.0 seconds, with a top speed potential of 121 mph. The amount of torque means the car drives well in normal driving conditions and feels relaxed when up to speed. For a smoother ride and richer engine sound, opt for the 254 bhp 3.0-litre V6 diesel, delivering 600Nm torque for an effortless ride. This model feels stronger, but its towing capacity is equal to the four-cylinder’s 3,500kg.

The V6 performs well, making 0-60mph in just 7.7 seconds and reaching a maximum 130mph. The car’s excellent low-end response, punchy mid-range performance, and smoother sound are all very tempting.

There is also an Si6 supercharged V6 option, with an engine taken from sister brand Jaguar. Producing 335 bhp, the car will make 0-60 mph in just 6.9 seconds, although the difference in the feeling of speed is negligible between this and the non-supercharged version. The engine produces its 450Nm torque with 3,500rpm, and the engine sound is impressive at full throttle.

Specs and off-road

The inside of the Discovery delivers just the sort of experience you should expect from Land Rover. There are four trim levels available, beginning with the S model which comes with air conditioning, Bluetooth, a DAB radio, autonomous emergency braking, and cruise control. The next model up, the SE comes with extra kit including an 8” sat-nav screen, heated leather seats with electric adjustability, LED lights and climate control, as well as a series of other features.

Amongst other things, the Discovery HSE adds in a larger 10” screen, a Meridian sound system, Land Rover’s InControl set of apps, additional USB sockets, a power tailgate, keyless entry, and fully electric folding seats in the second and third row.

Next up, the Discovery HSE Luxury delivers anything you could want from a luxury 4x4 with the tech kit to rival the Range Rover. The more premium items added to this model include a TV, further safety kit including surround view mirrors, heated seats throughout, and the car’s Intelligent Seat Fold system allowing you to configure your seats remotely via an app.

Off the beaten track, the Land Rover Discovery responds excellently, as we have come to expect of the model. Air suspension makes for a softer ride, and all of the available engines are fitted with an eight-speed auto transmission and a four-wheel drive system combined with Land Rover’s Terrain Response 2. This tech automatically senses the kind of ground being driven on, adjusting the engine and gearbox to suit the demands made of them. This can be done manually with the Terrain Response dial, but whichever option you choose the performance is second-to-none.
